NPP stalwart and Assin Central lawmaker, Hon Kennedy Agyapong has all but quashed rife rumours that he is in the running to usurp Chairman Blay to become the next NPP National Chairman.
Kennedy Agyapong could not fathom why anyone would think he would do such a thing when he has just been given another four-year term as MP by his constituents.
He said that this notion of him having intentions of running for party chairman should be disregarded as he wouldn’t have sought another term in parliament if it was so.
Kennedy Agyapong has laid a solid grip on the Assin North seat having been MP for quite a long time there now and has just been given another term.
That is a demonstration of the good work he is doing for his people in that they continuously elect him to represent them on the nation’s law-making body.
The MP said that he hadn’t held any discussions with anybody regarding the NPP chairmanship race and he is quite surprised that the news is all over the place regarding his intentions to contest.
“A lot of people are calling me and what they say is they’ve heard Kennedy Agyapong wants to be the National Chairman for the NPP. Why? Have they forgotten that I’m a Member of Parliament?
What I want to say is that it is not the truth, I’m not going to contest for the party Chairmanship and I’ve not had any discussion with anyone about this, but it is all over the place,” he said in a recent interview.
He added that if indeed he had intentions as have been speculated all over social media, he would have given up the MP race to focus on that one rather, and so the mere fact he stood and won as an MP means that all the talk of him wanting to be chairman of the NPP are untrue and must be disregarded.
“It’s on social media that Kennedy Agyapong for NPP Chairman meanwhile I’ve just been elected as a Member of Parliament. If I am interested in being the National Chairman I would have left the MP race so that means it’s not true,” he added.
