Rawling Goes Home Today Amidst Feuds and Boycotts

A state funeral for the late former President Flt. Lt Jerry John Rawlings (Rtd.) is currently underway at Independence square in Accra, amidst controversies between family Heads and the largest Opposition Party National Democratic Congress(NDC)  of which he was the founder.

A leading member of the NDC Anita Desoso had accused the Widow Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings of hijacking the remains of the former President and had virtually left the NDC of which he was the founder from the funeral arrangements.

It is believed that Chiefs from the hometown of the former president had boycotted the final funeral rites of the late Mr.Rawlings.

The first President of the Fourth Republic and Ghana’s longest-serving Presidentdiesd on Thursday, November 12 2020 at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The funeral is expected to be attended by President Nana Addo Dankwa, his Vice Alhaji Mahmoud Bawumia, te speaker and former speakers of Parliament, the Chief Justice and former Chief Justice, Justices of the Supreme Court, Current and former members of Council of State, Senior Government Officials, Religious Leaders, Traditional leaders and Head of the Civil servants and Organised leaders.

Members of the Political divide representing Various Political parties are expected to grace the occasion.

Also expected to be at the ceremony is former President Kuffour who had a frosty relationship with the late President Rawlings who paid his last respect to him yesterday in a wheelchair.

The late President Rawlins was 73 and is considered as the leader who birthed the democracy we are currently enjoying .
