Shoot Them Down: NDC Supporters to MPs

There appears to be a groundswell of agitation from members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on their Members of Parliament( MP) to put impediments in the qualifications of some individuals nominated by Akuffo Addo for Ministerial Appointment as they appear before the vetting Committee.

These agitations though justifiable in some quarters are borne out of the actions and inactions of these nominees whiles serving in the previous administration of the Nana Akuffo Addo government.

Political Watchers had argued that it would have been in the interest of Nana Addo as well as these appointees not to have been considered for the nominations in the first place.

Notable among them is Hawa Koomsoon who had earlier admitted to firing shots at a voter registration centre in her constituency” to protect herself”  during the voter registration exercise.

Ms Koomson who occupied the office of  Minister of Special Development Initiatives in a television interview after the unfortunate incident had said she fired “warning shots” because “there were no police around”.
She explained that she went to the centre after receiving information that people from outside the constituency notably NDC members were bussed to register there as voters.

Other individuals who are set to be rejected by the NDC members on the Appointment Committee include Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, Dominic Nitiwul, Ursula Owusu, and Godfred Odame.

Dominic Nitiwul who was appointed as Defense Minister is considered incompetent and again accused of ordering soldiers into the chamber of Parliament during the election of a Speaker for the house.

Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta who is a cousin of the President is accused of leading the charge for the passage of the “Agyapa deal” which was clouded in corruption and riddled in controversies.  med abysmally during the 2020 elections.

The Minority members with their current number are set to impose impediments on the vetting of these particular members to make good the calls of their grassroots against the interest of the state.

The appointees need 50% of the votes in Parliament

Critics have accused the NDC MPs of attempting to shortchange the interest of the development of the country against partisan consideration as well as the parochial desires of their supporters.

We wait with bated breath what will come of these nominees when they make a date with the appointment Committee.
