Jennifer Lopez thanked a wide variety of people while accepting the Generation Award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
The “Marry Me” star, who cried as she took hold of her golden popcorn trophy, kicked off her speech by showing appreciation for those who “gave me this life” before pivoting.
“I want to thank the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart. The ones who were true, and the ones who lied to me,” Lopez said.
“I want to thank true love, and I want to thank the way that I lied to myself because that’s how I knew that I had to grow.”
The “Waiting for Tonight” singer, 52, continued to thank “disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong” and her 14-year-old twins, Max and Emme, “for teaching me to love.”

“I want to thank all the people who told me — to my face or when I wasn’t in the room — that I couldn’t do this,” a crying Lopez added. “I really don’t think I could’ve done it without you. And I know I couldn’t have done it without the fans who saw the movies.
“You are the reason that I am here and that I have been here, and I love you!” she said.
The multi-hyphenate concluded her speech with an adorable shout-out to fiancé Ben Affleck, whom she requested wait for her “to have dinner.”

“I will be home by 7!” she quipped.
Lopez’s wide-ranging career, which has seen her release numerous albums as well as star in movies such as “Selena” and “Hustlers,” has been receiving accolades throughout this year’s awards season.
Just three months ago, Lopez accepted the Icon Award for her music career at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she teased, “I’m just getting started.”
